Enter, Kalos

Last week on the 14th I received my Pokemon X version and I've been playing it since. The hype on the latest installment to the Pokemon game franchise, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y was going on for a long time in the TOA Pokemon Club (it's a Facebook group created because TOA don't have clubs). About a month ago, one of our members found a page accepting pre-orders, we put our money together to pre-order our games in bulk.

There sure are a lot of changes to the gameplay now. Leveling up is significantly easy. The EXP Share is now a Key Item and it shares experience points to the whole party. Also, catching Pokemon gives experience points too! And I didn't know that since Black/White/Black 2/White 2 that TMs are reusable. That makes things so much more easy now.

I started my journey with Froakie. When Nintendo released the starters, I was gonna go with Fennekin but I now break my chain of Fire type starters (since Ruby/Sapphire) for Froakie because Greninja looks so much cooler than Delphox.

So my starters since Red/Blue go in this order, Squirtle (Blue), Totodile (Gold), Torchic (Sapphire), Squirtle (FireRed), Chimchar (Diamond), Cyndaquil (SoulSilver), Tepig (White, White 2) and Froakie (X). Notice how I never picked the Grass starter? Only Treecko and Turtwig are like the best Grass starters. Chespin looks okay, I might come to like it too.

As of the release of Pokemon X and Y, people playing are almost everywhere now. Ken is playing, we traded Pokemon a couple of times. Almost the whole TOA Pokemon Club is playing. Misaki and Baddie are playing. Charmaine started recently and Kai started today! (I had Kai's Pokemon Y with me because I helped him collect it, I used it to my advantage. Hee hee.)

This also made an increase in Streetpass in college. Everyone who has a 3DS started going around college trying get Streetpass. I am one of them and I would usually get an average of two to three Streetpasses when I make my round in the main block.

So far I have just defeated the 6th Gym Leader. I still need to complete my White 2 PokeDex though. I gotta complete that before December comes.

JOTI13.PU

Last Saturday and Sunday (19th, 20th October) was the annual Jamboree on The Air and Jamboree on The Internet (JOTA, JOTI). This year I helped out at the JOTI Petaling Utama (hence JOTI13.PU, PU is Petaling Utama if that's not obvious enough) again as an officer. I was assigned as the Mac room head officer.

On the first day I had to wake up really early because on the same day, my sister was going for some cheer leading competition and they had to meet up at SS2 at 6am. After my dad dropped her, I had breakfast with my dad before going to Sri KL, the school hosting JOTI13.PU. I was the first officer to arrive so I had to wait for a bit. When Mr Colin and the head officers arrived, we immediately got to work, starting up the computers and readying them for JOTI. After that, we had our opening ceremony. During the ceremony, Mr Ekbert installed Joon Keet and Kai Liang their assistant scoutmaster epaulets. After the opening ceremony, Mr Colin got the scouts to get into pairs and patrols, he briefed them about the jamboree, rules and stuff.

The jamboree started and together with Lysandra and Mun Keat, we watched over the Mac room. There were a lot of technical problems at the start, some scouts couldn't sign up for a Yahoo account and some couldn't get a verification email from the JOTAJOTI website. The problems were soon solved and things went pretty smoothly. I spent most of the time in the Mac room alone, doing my own things while watching over the scouts to make sure they are focused on their phases and to respond to their problems, for both days. That's pretty much what an officer does.

I was impressed by the scouts' performances during JOTI Night. Most of their sketches were really good; short, funny and straight to the point. On the first night, the scouts worked themselves till late night wanting to finish as much as they can. The jamboree came to an end after an award and closing ceremony. I'm looking forward to next year's JOTI!

Back To Basics and Investiture Camp 2013

Just last week I went for the Back to Basics (B2B) camp. It's an annual camp for the Rover H Crew to go back and camp like we used to when we were still junior and senior scouts, hence, "back to basics". We camped at a site in Janda Baik for 3 days 2 nights. I missed the previous three years' B2B because I always had classes and final assignments to attend to when it came around, this time when my schedule is more relaxed, I finally got to go for it.

The mornings and nights were really cold, about 25 degree Celsius. On the first day, we built our tent upon reaching the campsite and continued on to building the kitchen until late at night. When morning came, we continued to build the dining table and made laksa for lunch with the help of Mr. Ekbert and his wife. For backwoods cooking, we made two types of chicken, roasted and baked, we made bread in the shape of cups and had jam in it and we made pizza, all using the traditional backwoods cooking methods, the pizza was quite the success considering it was the first time any of us have done it before. After cleaning up we played some games. First was Holey Sheet, a game that has been played every B2B camp, I think. The objective of the game is to move a ball around numbered holes on a flysheet as a team, the challenge was, everyone is playing in the cold cold river and no one can talk or give orders. We were divided into two groups and my group failed to win the game. After that we played a race where we were split into three groups and each group consisting of five members can only have four pairs of legs at the duration of the race. After the games, we had our bath and relaxed for a bit before we start our barbecue for dinner. The barbecue was really great. So great I already miss the delicious meats we had. After dinner we had a short night game and right after that we had our rover installation ceremony. After three years in the crew, I finally get installed as a full fledged rover. After taking photos, we went to bed, taking turns to sentry.

My sentry shift was the last. The morning was really cold. Together with Joey, Yong Tick and Kuok Wei, we kept the fire alive to keep the mosquitoes away from the campsite. Morning came and after breakfast, we had our closing ceremony and proceeded to clean up the campsite and prepared to leave.

We had lunch together at a restaurant in Bukit Tinggi before heading back to PJ. I really enjoyed the camp. Hopefully I can attend again next year!
