I wanted to open this blog post with an epic intro but I got too lazy to think of one.
So the annual skills camp. For about two months before the camp, the senior scouts and the scouters started planning everything for the camp. A lot of new things were to be brought in this camp and it was intense. With Maverick busy this year, Sean and I had to take his plan and take care of the scout troop. Eventually it lead to Sean becoming the camp chief and me the assistant (which I did not know until the first day of camp). Because we didn't get to have a Tenderfoot Training Course this year, Sean and I kept teaching and training the scouts during troop meetings to prepare them for the camp, with the lack of TTC, we wanted the skills camp to be big. And we put a lot of effort into it, all of us, seniors and scouters, which we happily succeeded. The theme of the camp was proposed by the seniors, a combination of Greek mythology and Star Wars. Benjamin told me that they have bigger plans for next year and beyond as the themes will be based on the word 'hybrid' which is a six year plan, with each concept based on each letter of the word 'hybrid'.
Majority of my contribution to the camp is the photography, video and editing department. I basically had to make sure there were senior scouts taking photos and videos during the activities of the camp and all videos had to go through me for verification and critique. I also worked on the campfire opening video which took a month of preparation and when it played successfully during campfire, I almost cried of relief and joy. (Because the one I did was year was a huge failure)
Like usual, our scouters for the camp were Sean, Maverick, Yu Feng, Wern Kit, Ivan and me, and this year was also had Yong Tick to help us. A new feature in the camp was the exhibition hall planned by Benjamin. He had collected some scarfs, camp booklets, logbooks and uniforms for the parents and visitors who come for the campfire to see. I must say it was very impressive. The campfire this year I must say was quite a big success. We had not expected so many parents to come for the campfire but we were prepared. We learned from last year's mistakes and made this year's set up a lot more advanced. Mr. Dawson came to see the campfire as well and did a great help by helping us with the scouts. The newly assigned co-curriculum teacher, Madam Ngau for the school showed support by attending our campfire as well.
During this camp, I got to know our scouts even better. And hopefully the troop's skills camp will get even better.
I'm looking forward to sending our scouts to district events now that we have support from the new co-curriculum teacher. JOTI is coming soon.
